An Bonnan Bui - Restaurant - Rathmullan - Donegal

Once there was a bird, the Yellow Bittern, which lived in Ireland. Sadly, the Yellow Bittern is now extinct in our country. The name of the restaurant is inspired by the old Gaelic poem written by Cathal Bhuide Mac Giolla Gunna called An bonnán buí (Click here for Gaelic Version) and Yellow Bittern (Click here for English Version).
An Bonnan Bui - Restaurant - Rathmullan - Donegal

In 1993, Martin Kelly and his Brazilian wife Monica Santos brought the bittern back to life, by opening their marvellous restaurant An Bonnán Buí. Since the beginning, the restaurant has been offering great food in a relaxed atmosphere, bringing the customers back year after year.

Our food is prepared in the restaurant daily using only the freshest products. The result leaves a menu which caters for most food tastes. Vegan, vegetarian and celiac diets are easily accommodated with even, our now famous,  very good (celiac) chocolate cake on offer for a delicious finale.

As we are located on the shores of Lough Swilly, an excellent selection of local seafood is always on offer. Why not drop in to try our Brazilian dishes of moqueca de camarão, bolinho de bacalhau or mandioca frita while drinking a great wine. For the non- Irish wishing for traditional dishes there are many, like our roasted rack of Donegal lamb or locally caught Mulroy bay scallops pan-seared with coriander, garlic and chilli.  Our homemade foccacia bread is a treat and our own very tasty house salad dressing can now be bought in the restaurant. Whenever you call, the food will always delight, local or tourist.
